Library Volunteer

Research Officer

The Research Officer reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with other members of the Foundation to research, plan, and implement research-related initiatives and events.

Key Responsibilities include:

Research Resources:

Develop and manage English-, Tibetan-, and Chinese-language research resources, such as collections and databases on development policies, place names, and other identified resources;
Collaborate with and support Latse Library staff on research related to acquisitions.

Foundation Lecture Series and other Events:

Manage content and talent for all Foundation Lecture Series events:
- Identify and develop themes and concepts for the event;
- Identify, recruit, and coordinate participants; and
- Manage participant’s contribution to the event.
Working with other members of the Foundation and external partners, develop and organize academic-minded events relevant to Trace Foundation’s mission and goals.

Research Fellowship Program:

Design, develop, and expand Research Fellowship program, ensuring high quality topics and applicants;
Coordinate with and administer Research Fellowship applicants;
Serve on Research Fellowship review committee.

Publications, Research, and Other Projects:

Prepare for publication select scholarly contributions and proceedings from research-related events and programs;
Conduct research related to the Foundation's programmatic work and contribute to the development of new projects by providing background research;
Follow relevant government policies and keep the Foundation updated;
Oversee and manage other projects and publications as they arise.

In addition, he/she will be responsible to:

Translate documents as needed;
Work with Finance Office to audit receipts and maintain Research budget;
Manage and supervise a team of interns;
Serve as interpreter for various Foundation events as needed;
Participate in and provide leadership Foundation-wide initiatives as appropriate and provide support to Foundation colleagues as needed.

Skills required:

Commitment to and understanding of Tibetan culture;
Fluency in English and Tibetan required; additional fluency in Chinese highly preferred;
Excellent communication and writing skills;
Competence in managing research projects of all levels;
Computer-proficiency;
Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills;
Ability to complete time-sensitive tasks promptly and thoroughly;
Skilled in managing and completing multiple projects;
Excellent organizational skills;
Ability to interact effectively in a team setting.

Education and Qualifications:

Graduate degree or graduate-level training strongly preferred;
Experience in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual environment;
5 to 7 years of professional research-related experience in positions that also include project development and management.
