scholarships

Since its inception, Trace Foundation's greatest commitment has been to strengthening the educational system in Tibetan areas of China. Education offers not only the opportunity for material advancement and economic development; it also plays a vital role in enriching the quality of everyday life. In many communities, however, poverty plays a significant role in constraining individuals' attempts to gain an education.

Recognizing this vital need, since 1999 Trace Foundation has offered scholarships to promising individuals committed to improving the quality of life in Tibetan areas. In order to implement a systematic approach to student support, Trace Foundation launched the Tibetan Medium Higher Education Scholarships Project (TMHES) in 2005. A six year initiative, this program provides scholarships for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Professional Training programs to individuals committed to the development of Tibetan areas of China.

By the end of 2009, we have supported in various formats over 2786 individuals for higher education studies. Of these, about 419 individuals were directly selected and supported, including 49 individuals supported for postgraduate degree studies at universities outside of China, 802 undergraduates supported through partnerships with relevant higher education institutions within China, and through active cooperation from relevant senior middle schools, about 1565 senior middle school graduates supported for undergraduate studies at domestic higher education institutions.

Based on public feedback and the positive outcome achieved to date, Trace Foundation plans to increase its investment in the scholarship activities starting from 2010.

Apply now for Postgraduate and Professional Training Scholarships.

Deadline for submission of pre-screening material: March 15.

Undergraduate scholarships are awarded through Trace Foundation partner institutions. At this time Trace Foundation cannot accept direct applications for undergraduate scholarships. Please see undergraduate scholarships for further details.
