III. Regarding Service Proposal and Service Activity
Q: What is the Service Proposal?
A: The service proposal is one of the key documents in the application packet. It should be prepared as a narrative. It should contain detailed descriptions of the type, content, and logistical arrangements of your proposed service project, including methodology, time, place, people involved, etc. The proposal should be as detailed as possible. For more details please refer to the Service Proposal Guide which can be downloaded in Word or PDF.
Q: What is a service project?
A: A service project is an obligation that all Trace Foundation post-graduate scholarship recipients must fulfill. Service activities must be non-profit in nature and unrelated to any personal benefit.
Q: What types of activities are considered as not meeting the requirements of a service project?
A: The following types of activities will not be accepted to the requirements of the service project:
Q? Can I design and implement a service project jointly with another applicant applying to the Foundation at the same time as me?
A: In principle it is accepted. However, please contact in advance the Scholarship staff members to explain your situation.
Q: Can I skip Service Project Proposal as part of my application material?
A: No, you cannot. All applicants, including those who wish to have the service project waived, must submit service project proposals along with the rest of their application materials.
Q: Can service projects be waived under any conditions?
A: Recipients of the Professional Training Scholarships who are in-service education professionals may have their formal service project waived. In order for the service project requirement to be waived scholarship recipients must return to their original posts upon completion of their studies and engage in teaching duties for a period equal to the term of their scholarship. For details please refer to the scholarship contract. However, as part of the application material, a service project proposal still needs to be submitted.
Q: As an in-service teacher, can I design my service project as a plan for a new subject that I would like to teach after return to my school upon finishing my studies?
A: Definitely. We hope in-service educators apply what they have learned under our scholarships to improving teaching skills and teaching systems and play the role of academic leaders.
Q: What is the required time frame for carrying out the service project?
A: Service projects must be carried out within a year of completion of supported post-graduate studies.
Q: Can I complete my service project before graduation during my supported studies?
A: No, you cannot. Service projects must be conducted and completed within a year of the completion of your Trace Foundation supported studies.
Q: Does my service project have to be related to my area of study?
A: The service project should preferably be related to your subject of study; however, this is not a strict requirement. You must consult with the TMHES project staff members if your proposed service activities are not related to your fields of study.
Q: Is there a maximum or minimum time frame for the service project?
A: The service project should be, at a minimum, a 20 day activity. Requirements for in-service education professionals are described in Explanations of the Service Obligation and Guideline for Service Project Proposal Write-up.
Q: Can I conduct my service project in several phases?
A: The service project may be conducted in several phases or in a single extended project.
Q: Can I cancel the service proposal that I submitted at the time of application and implement a new service plan?
A: Yes, you can. However, you must submit a revision proposal well in advance, and submit your revised service plan to the Foundation two months prior to your graduation (between March and April). If after graduation you feel you must revise your service plan, you need also apply with the Foundation in written and submit you revised plan a month prior to implementing the new service plan.
