This scheme offers support to established Tibetan professionals (generally those with three or more years of relevant work experience) to pursue training that will help them develop their professional skills and pass that knowledge on to others. In particular we are targeting professionals whose past professional experiences, proposed studies, and future career plans are all linked in one way or anther with the development of the system of Tibetan medium education. PTS Scholarships are awarded under the following categories:

Professional Training Domestic Scholarships: Awarded to professionals pursuing training within China. Most PTS scholarships are awarded in this category.
Professional Training International Scholarships: A small number of scholarships are awarded each year for professionals whose fields require them to study internationally.
Professional Training for In-Service Education Professionals: Launched as a new activity in 2007, these scholarships target in-service education professionals. Qualified candidates are given the opportunity to study abroad for either degree or non-degree training.
Professional Training for Cultural Preservation Professionals: This is a new scholarship award launched in 2008. It is aimed at professionals who are engaged in the fields of cultural preservations. The subjects of training in focus are fields of study directly related to the theory and techniques of preservation of traditional culture heritages. This scholarship supports qualified individuals for degree or non-degree training at higher education institutions abroad.
Professional English Training Bridging Scholarship: Introduced in 2010, the English Training Bridging Scholarship (ETBS) ETBS is aimed at Masters Degree graduates and professionals who wish to enhance their English proficiency for the purpose of further studies at PhD levels. Currently the ETBS has an annual budget for 10 grantees at 10,000 RMB each. The training is meant for domestic contexts. The term of the scholarship is one year. Individuals who have already obtained a Masters Degree and are planning to go onto PhD degree studies, but are hindered by their lack of English (of other foreign language) proficiency in their efforts to achieve such goals are encouraged to inquire and apply.

In 2007, 23 established professionals in various fields received scholarships for further training in their respective fields. Three of these individuals received scholarships to study outside of China. An additional 3 education professionals were awarded international scholarships for advanced education-related training. In 2008 a total of 32 individuals received professional training scholarships. Among these, 3 belongs to in-service education professionals, one belongs to cultural preservation professional, and the rest two other professional backgrounds. In 2009, a total of 33 outstanding professionals received the Professional Training Scholarships. Of these 30 are recipients of the domestic professional training scholarships and 3 international scholarships for in-service higher education professionals. In 2010, a total of 44 individuals have been selected. Of these, 9 are internationship scholarships broken down as follows, 5 for regular international scholarships, 1 for International scholarship for Cultural Preservation professionals, and 3 for the International Scholarship for In-Service Education professionals.

Since 2009, the cash amount of the domestic training scholarship is divided into three brackets: first place, second place and third place award. The first place award amounts to a maximum of 10,000 RMB per year, the second place 9,000 RMB per year, and the third place 7,000 RMB per year.
