Postgraduate Direct Scholarship Application Guide

(This is an abbreviated version of the guide. For the complete guide containing detailed explanations on various aspects of preparing a PGDS application, please consult the original Chinese and/or Tibetan version of the Guide)

 

I. Candidate Qualification and Selection Criteria

The goal of Trace Foundation's Postgraduate Direct Scholarship (PGDS) is enable qualified individuals to develop their professional skills and pass that knowledge on to others. In particular we are targeting individuals whose past professional experiences, proposed studies, and future career plans are all linked in one way or anther with the development of the system of Tibetan medium education.

The PGDS provides funds for up to three years of postgraduate studies (either Masters or Doctoral level). A qualified candidate should possess the following:

• Must have successfully completed from Bachelors or Masters degree studies within the past two year.

• Must have taken the current year Masters or PhD entrance exams and provide the test scores (both single subject and total score) and score ranking.

• Must have fluent spoken and written Tibetan.

• Strong preference to those whose proposed studies are related to Tibetan medium education.

• Clear academic and future career plans that are linked with the missions of Trace Foundation with regards to the development of the system of Tibetan mother tongue education

• Willing to fulfill the service project and other agreed upon obligations upon completion of studies under the PGDS.

 

II. Review Cycle and Application Deadlines

Applications for Trace Foundation’s Postgraduate Direct Scholarship are reviewed once a year in May. The final results are normally announced before the end of June. In order for you to successfully enter the scholarship competition, you must meet the application deadlines as follows:

Deadline for submission of pre-screening material: March 1.

By March 1, all first time applicants must have submitted the following material:

1. Application form

2. Statement of purpose

3. Resume

Deadline for submission of complete application material: April 30.

By April 30, all applicants must have submitted all the necessary material needed for a complete application packet. If by April 30 you are not able to provide a complete set of application material, your application will be postponed for the next review cycle in the following year.

III. Things to pay attention to in preparing your application

IV. Application material checklist

A complete application packet should include the following items:

    1. Application Form
    2. Statement of Purpose
    3. Resume
    4. Service Project Proposal
    5. Three reference letters
    6. School Transcripts
    7. Evidence of publications (if it fits your case)
    8. Score reports on various higher education entrance examinations you have taken, including your last postgraduate entrance examinations.
    9. Photocopies of diplomas and degree certificates
    10. Official letter of approval for on-leave studies by employers (if it first your case)
    11. Official employer letter certifying your income status during studies (if it fits your case)
