Tibet Heritage Fund
Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region

To support the work of Tibet Heritage Fund, which includes: architectural restoration of traditional Tibetan buildings; water sanitation; and information exchange about cultural preservation. Trace Foundation grants have contributed to the work of Tibet Heritage Fund, which has been supported by government offices in China and international donors.

Trace Foundation Grants to Tibet Heritage Fund include:

A grant to restore damaged buildings in Lhasa, including Bumthang House, in the traditional Tibetan architectural style, to install one traditional Tibetan toilet and one solar shower. Matching funds of $24,184 for the restoration of Bumthang House were provided by the Bureau of Culture of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Amount of Support: $55,998

A grant to cover the expenses relating to surveying of Lhasa historical buildings by faculty members of the Architecture and Planning Department of Shanghai Tongji University. Members of the surveying team provided an assessment report of Tibet Heritage Fund work.

Amount of Support: $9,998

A grant to cover restoration, training expenses, and operations costs over a one-year period. Under the terms of this grant, 24 floor builders, one electrician, one carpenter, one painter, and two masons were employed on restoration projects and trained by a master builder and master mason.

Amount of Support: $131,200

Michael Aris Memorial Trust for Tibetan and Himalayan Studies
Oxford, England

To cover capital funds for acquisitions for the Michael Aris Library and recurring costs over a period of five years. The Michael Aris Memorial Trust raised a further $50,000 towards the project.

Amount of Support: $200,000

The Nature Conservancy
Arlington, Virginia

To support Photovoice, a public participation project which uses cameras and photographs to protect natural and cultural resources in Yunnan Province. Grant funds were used for costs incurred by local partner organizations and facilitators who implemented the project in the Meili area, including village training and monthly facilitated village discussions.
